ISABELLE KIM

I create sculptures and immersive installations that explore the self and Freudian psychoanalysis; I am interested in what the field teaches us of human behaviour, the psyche and recovery. My practice is governed by the importance of dialogue within psychoanalysis – a practice which is built upon talking as the solution to recovery, therefore I feel that writing forms an integral aspect to my works. My work is very personal, and at times invasive, I am interested in exploring Freudian concerns through the language of curation, through sculpture; many re-occurring subjects in my practice include family relationships, the notion of shame, psychosexual stages, the libido and the unconscious. My final show piece explores the Freudian life principle of balance being key, the work is a kinetic installation examining the counter-response to repression.
